Cienfuegos

Cienfuegos is the capital city of the province with the same name. It is quite different than the other Cuban cities because it has been established by a Frenchman in the service of the king of Spain. The neoclassical style in architecture is a result of this French influence. Cubans speak of Cienfuegos as the ‘Pearl of the South’ and its centre is one of the four Cuban city centres listed under Unesco’s World Heritage Sites. The city is also home to one of the main jetties (malecón) in the country. Cienfuegos is one of the prettiest and cleanest cities of Cuba.
