Granma

Granma, has been a key location for Cuba’s political history. This is the place where Carlos Manuel de Céspedes waged war against the Spanish in 1868. Cuba’s national hero José Martí lost his life here during the War of 1895. The province is named after the yacht Fidel Castro and his friends used when they came to Cuba from Mexico, because they landed here. Their struggle against the Batista regime took place in Sierra Maestra, a large part of which is also within the province of Granma today. All these events make Granma an inviting spot for tourists digging for history. The province capital, Bayamo is the second city established in Cuba.
